Cambridge Satchel Company | Daisy Bag

This is a review of the Cambridge Satchel Company Daisy bag in Dusky Rose. I bought this in 2018 as I loved the colour of the bag and I liked how practical the bag seemed. The bag measures W 11inches H 7inches D 5.5inches so it is a great bag for everyday needs!

You can carry the Daisy bag using the top handle for a cute look or clipping on the additional cross body strap to go hands free. The handbag open and closes uses a turnlock fastening which is easy to use.

Inside the bag it is one big spacious compartment. It would have been nice to have an additional inner/slip pocket but this seems to be a feature of bags from the brand.

Pros:

  • Love the look and the colour.
  • Can fit a lot in.
  • Additional cross body strap is a plus. The leather is durable and hardwearing.
  • Good price for leather.

Cons:

  • Leather doesn’t feel as luxurious as some of my other bags but can be more practical.
  • Lack of pockets.
  • The bag is very structured so you have to be careful how you place things. It is impossible to overstuff the bag!
  • When I received the bag, there was a little glue visible on the bottom of the handle where they stuck the leather pieces together. Finishing wasn’t perfect.

Chinese New Year – Kate Spade

Chinese New Year is coming around again! January 25 will mark the Year of the Rat. As usual, designer houses are bringing out their limited collections to celebrate the occasion!

Kate Spade have released a capsule collection of Tom and Jerry items, ranging from their large tote bags to wristlets and wallets. The background is a red colour with the spade pattern, decorated with images of Jerry. These items are not leather (instead printed PVC) like some of their other products but they do look quite cute!

Large Tote £265 (I like the cheese bag charm!)

Coach Swagger 27 – Jasmine

This is the Coach Swagger 27 bag in Jasmine with silver hardware. It is made from a mix of smooth and pebbled leather. It can be used handheld or using the detachable strap, can be worn cross body or on the shoulder. I normally like to carry by the handle or on the shoulder.

The Swagger has a turnlock belt detail on the front which is purely decorative. There is a slip pocket on the back to carry the essentials – I normally put receipts or travel tickets here.

The handbag has a zipped closure and is lined with a fabric material. It contains two pockets on each side – one zipper and the other one with a popper fastening. Both pockets are decent sized. Inside, the bag is very roomy and can fit a lot. I normally use this as a day to day bag and find it very practical. The bag doesn’t feel too heavy either, but the leather still feels really good quality. I don’t have many problems with the bag except one. The zipper fastening is a little difficult to manage. The end of the zipper is tucked into the end of the bag, but it is hard to control the zip closure with one hand only to complete close the bag. However, overall, I really like the Swagger. It is a great design, lovely colour and quality and so practical for what I need!

Handbag Q and A

Q: What was your first handbag?

A: I remember my first handbag when I was about 4 or 5 – it was a little black patent cross body from the High Street my mother had bought me. I count my first “designer” purchase as a Ralph by Ralph Lauren pink satchel which I bought from House of Fraser. At the time, I loved the colour and wanted a bag that was practical, although I was little scared to use it at first as it was considerably more expensive that my other purchases I had previously made!

Q: Which brands do you like the most?

A: At the moment, I am a big fan of Coach. I became interested in them for a few years now and I love their designs and the quality of their bags. I normally shop through their website and have had no issues with ordering and delivery so far. I am also loving a Singaporean handbag brand called Charles and Keith. Whilst the bags are faux leather, the quality of their pieces are good and the customer service is prompt and helpful.

Q: What is your favourite colour?

A: I tend to gravitate to lighter pastel hues as I generally prefer these colours more. I do have to be careful with the clothes I am wearing to avoid colour transfer and not to carry in heavy downpour. Whilst I can appreciate darker colour bags are more practical, I really love bags that are lilac, light yellow, light blue and pink.

Q: What is your favourite style?

A: I like bags that have multi-use i.e. ones that can be worn cross body, on the shoulder or (removing the detachable strap) handheld. I think it gives a handbag so much versatility and can be worn for different occasions. For daily use, I normally wear on the shoulder (sometimes cross body if not too heavy). At the moment, I am leaning towards smaller bags and trying to downsize what I carry. In the past, I used to carry a medium (to large) satchel which was heavy and caused shoulder pain, so I am looking to go light when going out.

Q: What are you currently using?

A: I normally rotate my bags so at the moment, I am using three in my current use: Small Cloud Bag in Lilac (Cambridge Satchel Company), Small Bayswater Satchel (Mulberry) and Swagger 27 in Jasmine (Coach). Now it is the summer season, I am trying to make use of the lighter colours!

Q: Have you had any problems with any brand?

A: Thankfully I haven’t had any quality issues with my current collection. I have had issues with customer service in buying in the past. I bought a handbag on sale from Aspinal of London’s website. I was disappointed to receive it – there were scratches and dust on the bag, and the leather in the chain had been pulled out. Aspinal of London’s handbags aren’t the cheapest so if you want to return a handbag, you will have to pay for the postage yourself, whilst a lot of other brands will provide free returns upfront. If you change your mind, you will have to bear the cost of return postage yourself. If the bag is faulty, they will eventually refund you the postage. My issue was it took a long time to receive confirmation of return and refund or the actual refund itself. I had to chase customer service so much – email, social media and phone.

Q: Do you have a favourite/worst bag?

A: My favourite bag is probably the Mulberry Small Bayswater Satchel. It is such a classic and it was a present from my partner, so it has a lot of sentimental value. I don’t have worst bags, but there are bags I don’t tend to reach for. There are some Kate Spade pieces I purchased on sale which are lovely pieces but I just tend to select other handbags over them.

Chinese New Year – Coach

Our next look at special edition Lunar New Year handbags is Coach.

Coach

Coach have designed a new print for Chinese New Year, their classic floral bow print on a bright red. Two special picks are:

Lunar New Year Pig Tote £125: featuring their Chinese New Year print on canvas, with a pig design on front.

Callie Foldover Chain Clutch £295: a wallet on chain that can be worn over the shoulder, or as a clutch if the chain is removed. Contains space for your cards, cash, phone and lipstick – perfect for a night out! This edition has the Lunar New Year print on polished pebbled leather.

Coach are running a  Lunar New Year promotion in which if you spend over £250, you could get a free leather passport cover in 1941 red with £75 (whilst stocks last). The code for this is LNY19.

Chinese New Year – Longchamp

Longchamp’s Lunar New Year collection is always looked forward to every year by handbag fans, and this year is no exception. In a collaboration with Chinese fashion designer and influencer, Mr Bags, Longchamp’s Year of The Pig collection. The bags and pouches sold out quite quickly in Asia and America, and even on the UK website, only the pink Le Pliage Cuir remains!

Some of the items include:

This is a PVC transparent Le Pliage, which allows you to see the pink pig nose,  a leather purse to keep your essentials hidden. I like the design of the bag, it is quite clever! The bag is complete with leather trimmings and a detachable carry strap. Priced in the UK at £300.

This is leather Le Pliage Cuir, available in black or pink, priced in the UK at £395. It features a pig backside on the front, and his face on the back. Made in lambskin leather and also features a detachable carry strap. There is also a little quirky detail when you lift open the flap!

This bag is also available in a larger size as a travel bag for £755 in black.

One more item in the collection is the Mr Bags Pouch (£200). This is a small pouch with a strap and features the pig nose on the front which forms a mini pocket. There is also a larger main pocket too, both finished with the Longchamp tag zips.

I think the Mr Bags x Longchamp collection is probably the best I have seen from handbag brands this year. I like the fact that the designs are quite abstract and clever, quirky and cute. The fact that they sold out very quickly just goes to prove that this is a popular collection!

The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

From a young age, I have also had a fascination with handbags. I remember one of my earliest handbags was a small black mini bag, a mix of suede-like material and patent. During the last few years, I have really got into designer handbags. I like the quality, the design and the history behind these brands.

What I love about handbags is that they can suit everyone. Whilst shoes and clothes only look right on the right body size and shape, everyone can carry a handbag and show off their individual style.

So, as you guess from the name, Hello Handbag Bunny will be about handbags! I’ll be looking at news, bags I find interesting (and maybe ones I don’t find so interesting) and maybe reviewing a few bags I have in my collection.

Please feel free to leave a comment – I would love to know which bags you are loving!
